Why should you support Australian-made clothing brands?

Posted on 01 June 2016

At The Ten, we could not be more proud of the fact that we are an all-Australian brand. When you buy a pair of our beautiful maternity leggings, you know that they are Australian to the bone. Our fabulous designer, our amazing pattern maker, our incredible cutters and makers are all right here in Australia. This extends to the care labels inside your pants, the stamp we've used to print our logo, and even the final tag clipped to your purchase. Yep - we're really all-Australian. And it's something we are really passionate about.

1. You know the conditions your clothes have been made under
There are far too many awful stories about the conditions many of our clothes are made under across the developing world. When your clothes are made in Australia, they meet the strict requirements of our government, and there's no cheap labour involved. While the garments may be more expensive, you certainly get what you pay for.

2. You're supporting the Australian economy
When you buy Australian made clothing, you're supporting economic growth within Australia. This means more employment opportunities for Australians, because manufacturing jobs aren't being shipped overseas. By buying Australian products, you're also creating demand for Australian-made clothing, which means that there will be more supply required to keep up with that demand. (i.e. The best type of supply and demand cycle!)

3. Less carbon footprint
Clothes can do a lot of travel before they land in your wardrobe. Fabric may come from one part of the world, can be made in another, and then sent to its final destination to be sold. This travel time obviously involves shipping, which contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. When you buy Australian made clothes, you reduce the impact your clothes have on the environment.

4. You're investing in quality over quantity
If your clothes are made in Australia, chances are they're being made with care, love and the best brains in the fashion business. This means you're investing in a quality product. Classics that will stay in your wardrobe for a very long time.

The Ten x
